Vusi Mahlasela

 

Simply known as ‘The Voice’ in South Africa. Vusi Mahlasela became a singer-songwriter and poet-activist at an early age. After his popular debut, Vusi was asked to perform at Mandela's inauguration in 1994. His list of global collaborators is immense, having completed award-winning work and tours with Bella Fleck, Dave Matthews, Paul Simon, Ray LaMontagne, Angelique Kidjo, Taj Mahal and Amos Lee. Vusi has recently been awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the prestigious Rhodes University in Grahamstown, as well as a Lifetime Achievement award at the South African Music Awards to recognize his accomplishments at home and abroad.
